About the project

In 1992, the President of Egypt visited the UK seeking top professionals to build a state-of-the-art hospital. Dr Ahmed Ismail was invited to be a part of the project using his expertise in Obstetrics, Gynecology, Endoscopic Operative Surgery, Infertility and IVF.

The project started in the heart of Cairo near the river Nile and was called Hawwa International Hospital. Situated in Dokki, it was close to major transport links, city landmarks and the research & diagnostic facilities of the leading private hospitals. The hospital was to be a centre of excellence for obstetrics, gynecology and infertility treatment.

The Hospital was opened in September 1994 by the Egyptian Prime Minister at the time, Dr. Atef Sedky. Also in attendance were the Minister for Health and the Mayor of Cairo, along with a host of the country’s leading medical and political figures. It was an unprecedented turnout in the history of such events, and has not been repeated since. Dr Ismail and the hospital have since been treating leading figures across the Arab world including royalty, celebrities, politicians and embassy personel.

IVF, Laser Laparoscopy, and Gynecology & Obstetrics. The hospital treated a very large number of patients with excellent records of success.

Dr Ismail was subsequently awarded the certificate of Specialist Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynecology from the Egyptian Medical Council. In 1994 he was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian British Hospital, Cairo, and Chairman of the Obstetrics & Gynecology Unit. In this role. he was responsible for organizing symposiums and giving lectures as well as providing training for junior doctors.
